Eveluna Natural Sleep Aid takes our fourth spot. The supplement contains all the recommended ingredients and four of five recommended herbs, so it’s not what they didn’t include that forced us to give it an unfavorable ranking
This supplement comes in the traditional capsule form, which we do not prefer due to their slower digestive time. But on to the formula…
The formula contains THREE ingredients we would never recommend you combine: L-Tryptophan, 5-HTP, and St. John’s Wort.
As stated in the second product review, 5-HTP is an amino acid precursor of Serotonin, and this can cause all sorts of terrible side-effects like: “...abdominal pain, absence of menstrual bleeding, agitation, aggressiveness, anorexia, anxiety, depressed mood, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, ear buzzing...irritability, loss of inhibition, lowered blood pressure, lowered cholesterol, mania, muscle pain or weakness or breakdown, nausea, pacing, palpitations, psychic hyperkinetic syndrome, rapid speech, restlessness, seizure, scleroderma-like symptoms, sleep changes, slowed heart rate, sodium retention, strong muscle contractions, sweating, taste changes, vertigo, vivid dreams, vomiting, or weight gain.” Source
Not only does the supplement contain 5-HTP, it includes St. John’s Wort and L-Tryptophan, which ALL act on Serotonin. Messing with your brain’s Serotonin levels like this is flat-out irresponsible, especially if you’re taking any other medications for mood disorders.
